For those looking for their next vacation destination, the country of Kazakhstan provides a wonderful blend of historically rich sightseeing destinations. The Republic of Kazakhstan is ranked as the largest landlocked country and the 9th largest country in the world. Kazakhstan also offers a very diverse population that is a composite of approximately 160 different ethnic groups. The government and its people are also very accepting of different religions. Kazakhstan became independent of Soviet rule in 1991. The republic is an official member of several international organizations that include the United Nations, Partnership for Peace, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Kazakhstan is host to a growing economy fueled by local/international business and a budding tourist industry.
In the country of Kazakhstan there are various natural sites to explorer. The Charyn Canon is a canyon that cuts through a plateau of red sandstone. Canyon arches and columns rise as high as 300 meters in some areas, almost the length of three football fields. The rivers and lakes in the region offer oasis like scenery that must be seen to be appreciated.
Tourists who enjoy spending time in the big city window shopping will be attracted to the cities of Astana and Almaty. These cities are popular locations for shops, malls, and restaurants. Almaty is also host to the Chimbulak Ski Resort and the Abai's Theater, an opera and ballet house.
A tour of Astana presents an aquarium, 4D theater, and the Korgalzhyn State Nature Reserve. For the pleasure seeker and night life enthusiast, both Almaty and Astana are host to various bars, dance clubs, jazz clubs, cafes, and other trendy hot spots.
Kazakhstan may not be the first destination that would pop into the mind of prospective tourists, but the country has much more to offer than can be explained in this article alone. It is a country that accepts tourists with open arms and welcomes people from all over the world.
