Dominica

A Land of Culture and Beautiful Expanse

Famous for its tropical rainforests, Dominica is an island between the Guadeloupe and Martinique Islands, located in the Eastern Caribbean. There are many natural rivers and waterfalls resulting from the high rainfall present in the interior of the island and Dominica has been noted to be one of the best dive sites and a premium whale watching spot in the area, possibly even in the world. Made up of many National parks and reserves, Dominica offers several crater lakes including the Emerald Pool. Dominica’s capital city, Roseau located on the south-west coast of the island, is comprised of a small population of about 14,500 with a total population of about 69,625 making up the entire Dominica.

Dominica had a very turbulent history of being assigned to Britain by the French in a treaty that was quickly broken as the French tried to regain control of the island. Caribs were assigned a 3,700 acre territory on the northeast side of the island, which is still a Carib inhabited area. The history of Dominica has left a French-based Creole language as well as English being the official language.
