Fortaleza Brazil

Fortaleza was discovered in the 1500s by Vicente Pinzon, a Spaniard who landed on the shore and called the new city Maria de la Consolacion. Later in the 1600s, the Dutch established a fort in the area. Over time, the Spaniards regained control of their land and renamed it Fortaleza. By the 19th century, the area’s primary source of income was through cotton growing. Currently, the city’s primary source of income is tourism. The hotel infrastructure in Fortaleza is one of the most modern in the country.

Brazil has long been a focal point of interest for tourists who want to experience the beautiful beaches of Brazil. Brazil was awarded the first Olympic Games in South America in 2016. Because of this honor, many individuals have an increased interest in learning more about the country and its culture. Fortaleza, Brazil is located in the North East corner of Brazil. Though Rio de Janeiro is the site of the Olympic Games, Fortaleza, Brazil offers a unique range of events for visitors who decide to come to the area. Fortaleza is the fifth largest metropolitan area in Brazil boasting nearly 3 million residents. The urban beaches are among the best in Brazil, and the area is affordable. The people in Fortaleza are cordial and peaceful. Additionally, the area is free from most major natural disasters. Most individuals enjoy their visit to the beautiful city of Fortaleza.

Fortaleza is Portuguese for “fortress.” The city is the capital of Ceara in North Eastern Brazil. The Statue of Iracema stands high in Fortaleza and is one of the focal points of the city. The statue honors an Indian legend that was fabricated in a novel by a famous Brazilian author, Jose de Alencar. He was born in Fortaleza. Other points of interest include the Lighthouse Museum, which was constructed in 1846. This lighthouse remained active for over 111 years before officials closed the light house and converted it to a museum for visitors to learn of its historical origins. Fortaleza is entrenched in the cultural arts. The Contemporary Art Museum, Rubens de Azevedo Planetarium, and Dragao do Mar Art and Culture Center are each points of interest for any traveler who seeks to learn more about the culture and history of Fortaleza.

Much of the area has been revitalized and has become one of the hippest and trendiest places to party and enjoy life. Bars, restaurants, movies, and theatres are all options that many locals and visitors enjoy. Most bars and nightclubs are open 7 days per week to allow everyone to be happy and enjoy life. Comedy shows are also a part of the local entertainment. Locals and visitors love to laugh and be jovial with one another while enjoying the talents of local artisans. Each July, Fortaleza hosts a carnival that beckons nearly 1.5 million people over the course of 4 days. The carnival features Brazilian music, pop stars, concerts, and fashion shows. The events are truly a place to relax and enjoy the festivities.

The average temperature for Fortaleza is in the high 70s to mid 80s Fahrenheit. The beaches are ideal for sun bathing and relaxing in the sun. From January to June the area experiences an abundance of rain, though it remains warm in the low 80s. Because of the rain and warmth, the humidity is rather high and uncomfortable for some. During the remaining part of the year, the weather is dry. December and January are the warmest months in Fortaleza. Despite the warmth, there are breezes from the Atlantic Ocean.
