Kauai, Hawaii also known as the Garden Isle, is the oldest among the Hawaiian chain of islands. The island's postcard-perfect beauty is highlighted by its amazing natural wonders, spectacular vistas, diverse culture, and unique history. Kauai has a lot of attractions that are truly distinct from the other Hawaiian islands.
Erosion has created the Na Pali Coast and the Waimea Canyon, two of the most amazing attractions on the Kauai Island. The high cliffs along the ruggedly beautiful Na Pali Coast prevents visitors from accessing most of the coastline, however, there are areas where hikers can safely scale the cliffs. Waimea is the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. This majestic canyon is 10 miles long and at least 1 mile wide. Koke'e State Park can be found way up in the mountains, where several scenic lookouts, hiking trails, and camping grounds are located. Before heading to the Koke'e State Park, visitors are encouraged to swing by Waimea, a historic seaport town near the area where Captain Cook first landed.
On the north shore of Kauai lies crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, an ocean playground for recreational water enthusiasts. Near Hanalei Bay is Haena, where the beautiful Limahuli Valley is located. A must see attraction in the valley is the Limahuli Garden and Preserve, one of the notable National Tropical Botanical Gardens in the United States. Also on the north shore is Lumahai, a gorgeous beach made famous by the film South Pacific. Although the waters are relatively unsafe for surfing and swimming due to the strong undertow and wave currents, the beach is a popular destination for tourists and photographers for its scenic ocean views.
On the south shore of Kauai lies the artist haven of Hanapepe. This charming town is dotted with historic plantation-style buildings, art galleries, and craft shops. Visit the town on a Friday and become part of the weekly celebration of the arts. Mingle with local craftsmen, artists, and sculptors and take a stroll down the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge. Nearby Koloa is a captivating historic town and gateway to the Koloa Heritage Trail. Also on the south shore is Lawai valley, an area known for its tropical gardens, taro terraces, and ancient Hawaiian stone walls.
A Kauai Hawaii vacation relaxes the body and mind, and indulges the different senses. Visitors looking for a way to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city will surely appreciate the relaxing, warm and friendly atmosphere of the island.
