 Lanai, Hawaii

Even before you land in Lanai, Hawaii, you will start experiencing the thrill that awaits you on the ground. From the sea or air, you can see beautiful cliffs in the western part of the island rising across the sea. If you are arriving by plane, you will land on an airstrip located on Palawai Basin crater. One unique thing about the airstrip is that it does not have any tunnels or jetways. It is just an open vast area full of sweet air and peace.

Lanai is a beautiful paradise and its cultural and natural attractions are spread out over 141 square miles. The island is characterized by bumpy roads, pineapple lands, a lush rain forests and parts of wide windswept plains. Four-wheel drive vehicles are the ideal means of transport as the whole island has barely 30 miles of paved roads!
Garden of the Gods Lanai Hawaii

The whole of Lanai island is an attraction by itself. The island has scenic views that will leave any visitor awed. About 5 miles from the city, the largest remnant of Ryland forest can be seen at The Nature Conservancy's Kanepu'u Preserve. The 590-acre nature preserve boasts of native Hawaii flora including Olopua, Lanai sandalwood, Nau and over 40 other species. The nature reserve is gated to prevent Muslin sheep and deer from messing with the endangered flora species.

You must stop by the beautiful Hulope Beach Park when in Lanai. Here, you can spot dolphins, enjoy snorkeling or simply relax by the sandy beaches. The area is also available for those who would wish to camp. However, only residents are allowed to sleep next to the ocean. You will also be thrilled by the Cathedrals that lie underwater. At the nearby dive site, there is a glowing underwater grotto that will not escape your eye.

When on Lanai, you can stay at the Four Seasons Lodge at Kole. This upscale resort is located on sophisticated property that is full of Cook Island pines. If you are tired with the beach, shade yourself under these trees along the pretty pagoda or on the rolling green golf course.

For those who love outdoor adventures, go hiking on the Kolilki Ridge Trail. This 2.5 mile trail offers a great walking and bonding adventure for the whole family. The trail consists of a dirt road that you can drive through with your four-wheel drive vehicle.
