The largest city and capital of the Greek region of Macedonia is Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is where you will find a majority of the attractions in the region. Thessaloniki currently has 15 UNESCO World Heritage sites within the city, which is more than any other city in Greece.

The Hagia Sophia is the first attraction that everyone visiting Macedonia should visit. The Hagia Sophia is a church located in the city of Thessaloniki that was constructed in the early 8th century. The Hagia Sophia was established as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988, and is one of the oldest churches in Greece.

The Arch of Galerius and the Rotunda are two more attractions that everyone must see during their visit to Macedonia. The Arch of Galerius was built over 1700 years ago and still remains intact today. The Rotunda is an ancient church and is located directly next to the Arch of Galerius. There are not many locations in the world that have one attraction with the history of these two monuments. The amazing history of every building in Macedonia is what makes it a great place to visit.

Ano Poli is an area just outside the city center of Thessaloniki that should also be seen by everyone traveling to Macedonia. Ano Poli is one of the only areas in Thessaloniki that still features the traditional architecture of that originated in the area, and all of the streets are made with paved stones. There is no better way to experience the culture of Greece than at Ano Poli.
