Clearwater, Florida

To the northwest from St. Petersburg and west from Tampa, Clearwater, Florida is situated in Florida's Pinellas County on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. This region was once populated by the Tocobaga people. In the early 1830s, the Army of the United States constructed a fort that looked out over the harbor. A community formed near the fort and soon a town developed. By the 1900s, the village had its own newspaper. From then until today, Clearwater has been known as a great beach resort area and a well-loved winter retreat.
