While other destinations in Florida get more hype, New Smyrna Beach, Florida is an area with rich history and culture. St. Augustine isn't the only city in Florida to claim four different flags during its history; New Smyrna Beach originally flew the British flag. The city  then changed to Spanish, then the American flag, and finally the  confederate jack flag. The flag changed back to the current American  flag after the Civil War. During prohibition in the 1920s, the city was a popular hideout for people smuggling rum into the country from the Bahamas.

Located on Florida's Space Coast, Today, one of New Smyrna Beach's biggest attractions is the Marine  Discovery Center. Turtles and other forms of marine wildlife can be  observed here. The turtle hospital is a particularly interesting place  to see. Most people don't even know what a turtle hospital is let alone  what one looks like. Visitors are also able to interact with stingrays,  birds, plants, and even dolphins. The attraction itself isn't very  large, but there's plenty to see and do for the whole family. Children  in particular really seem to enjoy the Marine Discovery Center.

Another big draw is the Smyrna Dunes Park. This is a fascinating beach  area where many guests take advantage of fishing, swimming, sun bathing, and other activities. Jogs along the Ponce de Leon Inlet are popular  forms of exercise for residents and visitors. Even dogs are permitted to use the dune park so that they can experience the sight and sounds of  sand dunes. If a relaxing walk along the beach sounds like good time to  you, then try a visit to the Smyrna Dunes Park. Bring some kind of bag  to collect all the shells you'll undoubtedly discover during your visit.

The New Smyrna Museum of History is another fascinating attraction in the  city. The detailed history of New Smyrna Beach is chronicled there  through the numerous exhibits available for your viewing pleasure. You  can learn all about the Spanish settlers that truly started the culture  there. They change up their exhibits every few months to keep things  fresh and interesting for returning visitors.

With plenty of great weather and nice people, New Smyrna Beach is an appealing stop for  tourists from all over the place. The storied past of the city combines  with the pleasant present to create a unique city with its own  character. Expand your travels today and plan a trip to New Smyrna  Beach, Florida.
